WILMINGTON -- UNCW's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship continues to inspire future business owners.

On Friday, the center hosted NC Ideas, a group that awards $50,000 grants to start-up companies.

UNCW graduate Justin Beard recently won the grant for his website called Snap Yeti. It hosts photo contests for businesses, acting as marketing tool and gathering users who will receive discounts and prizes for entering a photo. He said UNCW gives students a great base of knowledge to prepare them for the business world.

"I am just so proud that Wilmington has got this UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship because now it gives students like me that might have had a really good idea a place to come and bounce ideas off of," he said.

The center currently houses 14 start-up businesses and they are hoping to expand.

"We are in a very entrepreneurial-friendly state. Durham does this really well," said Executive Director of CIE Jim Roberts. "Our goal is to become one of those top cities within our state and within the Southeast to start a company."

The center opened its doors in September of last year. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
