GOLDSBORO--Residents on Bain Street in Goldsboro are still shaken up following the disappearance of 16-year-old Kennedy McLaurin, Jr.
"When I first found out I was shocked," Goldsboro resident Roshone Yelverton.
Then friday brought more bad news.
"The investigation has changed from a missing person report to an active homicide case," Sgt. Dwayne Dean said.
Police arrested three suspects on Friday, 21-year-old Leonardy Joyner, 19-year-old Jerome Butts and 18-year-old Kevin Smith. All three were charged with murder are being held without bond. As the search for McLaurin's body continues, the community is on edge.
"I was kinda like did it really happen because it's so quiet here and things like that never really happen here," Yelverton said.
"I was like oh my God, because people got kids out here and it's quiet and we really don't have any problems," Goldsboro resident Krystal Jones said.
A crime in broad daylight, in a neighborhood where children often play outside, has people in this small town on high alert.
"Everybody's keeping their eyes open and ears open because anything can happen," Yelverton said.
Police have now arrested all four suspects in the investigation, including 17-year-old Curtis Etheridge on Saturday.
Authorities also announced they found remains, which they believe are McLaurin's, but they are waiting on a positive identification.
