CHARLOTTE—The City of Charlotte is going after another federal grant for the proposed streetcar extension project.

The project would run from the uptown transit center to Johnson C. Smith University and east along Hawthorne Lane.

The city will apply for a federal 'Small Starts' grant later in November to cover half of the $126 million cost.

Earlier this year, the city lost another federal grant. Construction for the first leg of the streetcar, between Novant Health and the transit center, is underway.
