PENDER COUNTY—The search is over for a missing pilot.

Emergency officials found the body of U.S. Marine Capt. Luke Parker in Duplin County late Monday night after his plane crashed.

Authorities say he left Onslow County on Sunday traveling to Michigan for a funeral.

The search initially led investigators to Pender County.

However, transponder signals eventually led them to the plane wreckage off Best Road in Kenansville.

"We realize that we probably weren't going to find a positive thing, but at the same time, the thought of him hurt kept us going," said Rob McDuffie, director of Emergency Services.

Officials say Parker housed his plane in Duplin County at one point and may have fueled his plane at the airport in the past.

The case is currently under investigation by the NTSB and the FAA.
