RALEIGH -- It was a race against the clock Monday for a team of utility workers from Charlotte. The simulation wasn't a drill but part of a pipe tapping competition at the state's annual Water Conference in Raleigh. David Van Zee served as a judge for the event and also has an exhibit for his company.

"We've been coming to the show for nine years. We basically work on North Carolina infrastructure, wastewater infrastructure," said Van Zee.

Attendees are coming together to looking for ways to make our water safer.

"It's a huge investment. It's an important investment and it's one that needs to be reinvested in. In order to have safe water, you have to have a solid infrastructure system," said American Water Works Association David LaFrance.

From the meetings to the hands-on competition, there was a steady flow of activity on the conference's first full day as industry leaders gather together to try and keep the one resource we all need in our daily lives flowing smoothly. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
