SNEADS FERRY, N.C. -- Six men are in the Onslow County jail after authorities said they nearly beat a man to death with a baseball bat early Thursday.

The six men are all in their 20s and face charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The attack happened at the intersection of Highway 172 and Country Club Road in Sneads Ferry.

Sheriff Ed Brown said the victim -- Justin Owens -- and the six suspects got into an argument at a bar.

Brown said the men blocked Owen as he was driving earlier Thursday morning and attacked him with a baseball bat.

Authorities said it was one of the men who was arrested that called 9-11.

Emergency crews flew Owens to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where, according to the latest reports, he is still listed in critical condition with severe head injuries. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
