MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators have given the case of a missing Moore County teenager a new look.

Jaime Southgate, 15, disappeared shortly before Christmas in 2004. Detectives and the CUE Center for Missing Persons hope someone will come forward with additional information.

Sheriff's detectives said Jamie was in the custody of Social Services when they dropped her off on the morning of Dec. 17, but when the school reported her absent, Social Services reported her missing.

"From the information we got she was picked up by Ricardo Soto. He was I guess a boyfriend at the time," said Det. Bradley Whitaker of the Moore County Sheriff's Office.

Soto is a convicted felon. According to investigators he served over eight years in prison for assault with a deadly weapon for a case near Greensboro. Soto was released form prison months before Southgate's disappearance.

According to detectives, Southgate and Soto planned to marry, but at the time Soto was 26-years-old and Soto was only 15-years-old. There is a warrant out for Soto's arrest for child abduction.

"From the information we got, he was an associated gang member. He does have a violent history, there's always the possibility that something could have happened to her during the time frame," said Whitaker

Investigators believe the two still have ties to the Moore County and Harnett County area. Anyone with any information about this case please call the CUE Center for Missing Persons tip line at 910-343-1131.
